Comment connaître sa typologie et son état de peau

How to determine your skin type and condition

Knowing your skin type and condition is essential for choosing the right skincare products and avoiding mistakes. There are several skin types, each with its own specific needs.

To determine your skin type, the easiest way is to observe it in the morning when you wake up. Look at its pores, areas of shine, its appearance, and its texture. Note the different characteristics of your skin and compare them with the charts below.

At home, you can also do the tissue test. After removing your makeup and cleansing your face, wait about thirty minutes, then place a tissue over your face for a few seconds. If, upon removing it:

  • Your whole face has left a mark, that means you have oily skin.
  • Only the T-zone is visible; you have combination skin.
  • There are no traces, which means you either have dry or normal skin.

Skin type and skin condition, although often confused, are distinct concepts that play a crucial role in skincare. Skin type, which includes categories such as normal, oily, dry, combination, and sensitive skin, is primarily determined by genetic and hormonal factors and remains relatively stable over time.

In contrast, skin condition, which can include issues like dehydration, acne, reactivity, blemishes, and aging , is temporary and can fluctuate in response to environmental and behavioral factors such as climate, pollution, diet, stress, and the use of cosmetic products. These factors affect the skin and disrupt its balance at the level of the microbiota , the collection of microorganisms living on the skin's surface.

While skin type is a fundamental characteristic, skin condition can change rapidly, influenced by lifestyle changes or external factors. For example, someone with oily skin may experience episodes of dehydration or acne depending on their diet, stress level, or the products they use. Understanding these distinctions and interactions is essential for developing a suitable and effective skincare routine.

OILY SKIN - S-detox

Oily skin is easy to identify; it's characterized by shine all over the face caused by excess sebum, which clogs pores and can lead to blemishes and blackheads. The skin texture is uneven and may have blackheads and whiteheads visible to the naked eye. Another sign of oily skin is that makeup doesn't stay on well and the pores are enlarged.

To care for oily skin, it's important to cleanse your face morning and evening with a gentle cleanser, such as the S-Detox Foaming Gel , to unclog pores. It's also important to moisturize with a light, mattifying cream, like the S-Detox 24h MattExpert Cream . This will protect your skin from external aggressors and prevent shine. Deep cleansing is also essential. Use a mask once a week with the S-Detox 1.0 Mask and/or a gentle scrub with the Facial Scrub. This will help unclog pores blocked by sebum and impurities. Refer to the table below to choose the S-Detox product that best suits your needs.

DRY SKIN - Hydratempo

Dry skin is often characterized by tightness due to a lack of lipids in the skin. It can also present with rough patches that may lead to scratching and worsen the feeling of irritation.

To care for dry skin, it's important to treat it regularly with creams rich in hydrating and nourishing active ingredients. We created the Hydratempo range from Skinminute specifically for this purpose. The Hya 24h cream is perfect for deeply hydrating and plumping the skin. For maximum hydration throughout the day, combine it with the HyA 3D Hydratempo Serum , applying it before your cream morning and night. To nourish dry skin while you sleep, use the Waterbomb night mask, formulated with... MOIST 24TM COMPLEX, always in association with the serum.

Note: Do not confuse dry skin with dehydrated skin. In the first case, it refers to a skin type that lacks lipids, in the second, to a skin condition caused by a lack of hydration.

COMBINATION SKIN S-detox

Combination skin is characterized by an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and a normal or dry appearance on the rest of the face. It's important not to confuse oily skin with combination skin. Oily skin has excess sebum all over the face, while combination skin only has it in the T-zone. The presence of a few oily patches on the face doesn't necessarily mean the skin is oily. Oily skin is a condition that cannot be changed, whereas combination skin can evolve.

It's therefore important to use the right care for each area. The T-zone should be treated the same way as oily skin. This will help prevent clogged pores and shine. The rest of the face should be moisturized as needed, according to individual requirements and comfort. Avoid using harsh products on the less oily areas. The S-Detox Equilibr'Express cream is the perfect ally for combination skin. It provides hydration while also reducing redness.

NORMAL SKIN

Normal skin is characterized by its softness, lack of imperfections, and is neither oily nor dry. It is resistant to various aggressors, such as temperature and humidity. Skincare is fairly simple, but exfoliating once a week with a facial scrub to remove dead skin cells and using a good moisturizer like HyA 24H Cream is highly recommended.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Sensitive skin is a skin type but can also refer to a skin condition. Characteristics of sensitive skin include dryness, irritation, and itching. At times, sensitive skin may be prone to acne, swelling, and redness.

Sensitive skin reacts strongly to its environment. Changes in temperature, sunlight, harsh skincare products, or even emotions can all trigger these reactions. This sensitivity stems from malfunctions in the hydrolipidic film, which acts as a protective barrier. As a result, the skin is not adequately protected and is more vulnerable to external aggressors, causing it to react more intensely. The soothing and nourishing creams in the Sensimine range protect and nourish the skin's protective barrier thanks to Pinolumin Alpin.
